Cambelt change: how to remove idler?

$

Been going at this cambelt change on and off for a few days now, but I can't work out how to get the idler pulley out?  It seems to be stuck behind the engine mount plate thing so I've slackened the remaining 3 bolts on the plate, but it won't budge.  I think there's supposed to be a bolt at the top somewhere, but the only one I could find just had the engine lifting point attached to it.

The only things I can think of are that the tensioner spring is pushing down on the tensioner and that might be creating too much friction to move the bracket?  Or that the bolt that goes through the bracket into the idler won't come out fully cos its hits the side of the engine bay, and this could still be holding the idler in place?  I think it's far enough out for that not to be happening though.

Any tips?

2.0 Hdi turbo choices/upgrades

$

Hi everyone. First post in the community.
I'd like some advice on what choices I have with upgrading the standard Hdi turbo. Either something 'custom' with an almost near perfect flange fitment or a built for the job hybrid turbo.
I'm in the process of building a 2.5 stainless straight through from the manifold back and will match an intercooler to meet requirements. Only other thing is to speak to Hdi Tuning about ecu set up.
I have the benefit of owning my own shop, we cover mechanical, paint and fabrication so very lucky to have no issues with equipment etc. I did debate about building a custom manifold and top mounting a turbo and relocate the battery but have decided that it's a little too extreme and better to stick to some proven mods.
Appreciate any help in advance[THUMBS UP SIGN]?[THUMBS UP SIGN]?

Essex Meet - Wednesday 21 June - The Grange, Boreham (Chelmsford)

Usual monthly place, The Grange in Boreham. Just off the A12, near the McDonalds & Car Auctions.

Wednesday 21 June, from 7pm.

There tend to be a couple of people there earlier than that, but we try to park at the very start of the car park, just as you go through the barriers (on the right).

There is decent light and weather now (hopefully), so we should be able to see the cars etc until around 9.30pm dependant on weather.

Hopefully see a few more faces now summer is approaching.

Here's my 1.4 8v meridian with 126k+, engine and running gear arnt in the best shape but is it worth putting in some coin.

I got her for 400 quid and haven't done a thing apart from run it to work which is 2 miles away from my house.

There's no leaks of my knowledge and it's got a solid body. Just don't know where to start when it comes to putting a bit of cash into bring her back.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

Thanks guys.[Image: 734c803df25d8c642d1d9413c73a8a2d.jpg][Image: 8e38b9f1f5c74a38e3ad9f2e380e74bf.jpg][Image: be77828fec4e8914ce99e8258c3657f6.jpg]

Car Cover

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately I live at the edge of a forest so the amount of leaves, sap and general tree shit is unreal. The car is covered just overnight and it gets covered in sap. Being black its difficult to clean it anyway so I want to get a car cover that will keep the crap off it. I am worried about it flapping around and damaging the paint and also any rubbing and burning of the paint.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations of what to buy?

Stubborn torsion bars

Unsurprisingly, the torsion bars on my knackered rear beam are refusing to give up easily.  Have now broken two home-made pullers made of a high tensile (10.9 grade) M8 bolt welded to some M12 threaded bar.  The M8 bolt ended up snapping.  Am surprised that my messy welding held out!

I was thinking about applying some heat to help free them.  Good idea or not as I assume the torsion bars have been very specifically heat treated in manufacture?  If it's OK I only have a plumbers torch - would that put enough heat in to it?

Cheers.

Rear washer jet

Hi all,

I wasn't sure if this went in electrics or exterior so please feel free to let me know!

The rear windscreen arm cover fell off my car and since then the actual nozzle seems to have broken off and disappeared. There's still some of it remaining in the wiper motor that I can't seem to get out yet.

Does anyone know if I can replace Just the washer jet nozzle and where I can source it from? Peugeot garage seemed to think they only came on the motor when new?

Thanks in advance!

BMW 325ti Compact/Volvo V50/C30 D5

Hi all

I have a 306 HDi stage 2 estate about 168bhp, I love it and I have had it 3 years I think. However I fancy a bit more luxury, I have always fancied a BMW straight six and I like the look of the compacts, anyone had any experience with them and I was also flirting with the idea of a Volvo D5 either a V50 or C30. I just fancy a bit more comfort and electronics (cruise control/automatic lights etc) and a bigger engine. I have also never owned a petrol and kinda fancy it plus the government seems to be cracking down on diesels.

any advice is welcome.

306 gear linkage bush

Just wondering how much play there is supposed to be between the gear linkage rod bush, and the pivot arm ball which goes inside it?

There seems to be a couple of mm of play on my car and not sure this is correct. There is also a vibration from inside the engine bay which happens at around 1100 rpm and is particularly noticeable  when pulling away from a standing start. Wondering if the vibration could be the play in the linkage rod bush?

Sump off today to replace crank seals

Hi,

I had the sump off today and I was surprised at how clean it was inside.

This is the 340k miles car I've got.

The GTI6 I did the seals on last year was all discoloured and the hockey seal were hard like plastic were as the seals in this were still soft.

I thought the the hockey seals were going to be worse but they don't seem bad.

I didn't realise the bearing cap bolts were stretch bolts on these. I take it that means I need to replace with new and I can't (shouldn't) reuse them? They were a right pain to undo, so tight, even with a breaker bar.

Oil pump chain tension

Hi,

I've noticed there is more slack then I thought there would be on the chain to the oil pump.

Is there a auto tensioner on these engines or is the slack normal?
