Boost seems to be lagging more??

Hi all,
Had my '96 1.9TD for a while now and lately the boost seems to be coming in later and later. Doesnt seem to make any (noticable) boost until 3000RPM. When i first got the vehicle it seemed to come in much quicker and seemed more powerful also. Does anyone have any ideas of what i can check? It's got a Lucas pump which i HAVEN'T tweaked but i did remove it recently to replace the shaft seal. I dont believe there are any boost leaks, not that i can hear anyway.
Thanks in advance,
Will.

Brake pipe & flares

Have searched on the forum n internet but can't find a definitive answer to these questions.

Have removed the fixed brake lines from the rear calipers n they twisted as I unscrewed the fittings. I'm guessing they hadn't been undone for many years n the two had corroded together. First question, are there any tips for stopping this happening? A good soak with penetrating fluid perhaps?

Second question is about copper-nickel brake line. Some online retailers sell 25ft at the £30-40 mark while there's stuff on eBay for £15-20. Is some of the eBay stuff to be avoided at all costs? Any recommendations on where to buy?

Finally (!), what type of brake pipe flare is used at male & female fittings on the 306? Combo of bubble & double flares? Even if I look at the old ones I feel like I'm guessing what type they are!

I expect some people will recommend just getting someone else to make them up but I'd like to have a go myself.  I've bought one of these https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht172-a...-kit/?da=1 .......yet to find out if it (or my skills) will be up to the job.

Cheers for any advice.

Coolant hose age / replacement

I'm guessing that my 306's are mostly (if not entirely) on the original coolant hoses - i.e. in excess of 19 years old.  On visual inspection they doesn't look too bad - no cracks and still seems quite soft and flexible.  With the hot weather now here though I'm starting to worry about relying on such old hoses.

Any thoughts?  Leave them until they show signs of failure or undertake preventative replacement?  I know that would be quite a job as it would also involve the ones running to the heater matrix.  Any recommendations on best after-market coolant hose if I go down the replacement route?  (I guess, though, using generic hose means bodging the fitting to a standard radiator & thermostat housing etc).

New car ideas

Thinking about possibly changing from the HDi to something else...main reason is insurance. I'm finding it hard to justify the cost for the insurance when I can get something newer, quicker, safe and in some ways nicer for the same cost.

I was wondering what ideas you all had, so many cars I'm sure I haven't thought of them all!

I'd like something reasonably quick, not lightening speed but actually goes.. After driving things like a van, dear lord that was painful!
Something I don't need to modify or modify much.
Half reasonable on fuel (35-40mpg motorway?)
Has to be safe and have space for me to crate out for the dogs as I go to a lot of shows, they're my main priority!!
Running costs.. Tax no more than I pay now (270ish?), insurance not too much, paying around 500 as is (not looking forward to renewal!)
Reasonable on brakes etc.. Don't want to be burning money away!

Also doesn't have to be an estate, roomy hatchback I can make work, or even a 4x4 style car. The rear safety of a 306 has given me good ideas for dog crate

Ball park on purchase cost probably around £2000 to £3000

Any ideas would be a great help to help me think of something practial!!

Electrical woes

So ive had the dash out of the kingfisher for a couple of weeks now to weld up everything. Put the dash back in and the battery light is on! Plus as an added insult it also seems like the acc is switched in the ignition barrel so wipers work etc while ignition is off. The barrel can be disconnected and this still happens.
The earth is good under the dash have checked
Everything works as it should when the igntion is on
Alternator has been repaced as i thought it had shorted
Earth straps in bay have been changed (broke while doing matrix pipes)
The chassis leg connectors are
Immaculate no corrosion at all
There are two connectors that look like they should be plugged in but are not they are pictured. The brown is passenger side foot well and the white is drivers footwell. ANY ideas please?

fuse keeps failing

5 amp seems to control the yellow dash air bag light (which stays on) and the temperature gauge which stops working, only symptom seems to be something rubbing or loose under steering wheel/airbag vicinity.

Also, when my diesel tank gets lower than half full the needle starts to swing wildly.

there seems to be a whole malaise of "electrical" glitches in my project (now my daily driver)...My diy achilles heel!

Massive oil leak

Hi all. Driving my xud9te down the motorway and the stop light came on. After stopping and letting it cool, I inspected it and there is oil all over the underside of the car and up the rear doors and wheels. It looks like an oil hose has been rubbing on another hose, causing it to split and loose all its oil. I should this something common or is there somewhere else I should look before fixing this pipe for it to still have the same problem.... if I can't  find the fault, the car will be going to the scrappy.

Ph3 half leather alcantara interior

Half leather/Alcantara interior from a ph3 3 door GTi6

The fronts are airbag seats. Note the plugs have been cut and were soldered in the vehicle so have been chopped.

Reasonable condition. The leather is in one piece but there are some holes in the Alcantara on the drivers seat. Certainly not the worst condition I've seen. If someone is prepared to replace the worn alcantara sections and treat the leather they will have a nice set.

Probate vehicle valuations

Well after a long 2 year battle with cancer my father passed away the other week and unfortunately he didn't leave a will so everything has to go through probate.

The problem is he's got 33 vehicles we need to get shot of.

I'm just seeing if anyone has been through this ball ache before and has any tips.

From what the government website says "anything over £500 needs a valuation from a garage".
Now what I deem is scrap might not be in someone else's eyes.

Most of the cars are rust buckets and have not seen the road in 5-10 years and more.

However a few of the bikes are decent and actually run.

So far we've logged milage and condition and got a price off webuyanycar.com. Or does there have to be a "probate" valuation in place.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
